"I tend to have a bit of a rough exterior, but once you get to know me, I'm more of a sweetheart than you'd think. I enjoy the finer things in life, and I almost always get what I want. Not that I'm spoiled, mind you. I just know how to work hard in ordre to get results. I love my family and I'd do anything to protect them; I also consider my friends as my family. I don't get touchy-feely that often, so when I do, you'd better listen closely."

"Like I said, I love my family. It consists of my mom and dad, Mary and James. I don't say that I love them in order to impress girls, or to be ironic, either. I truly depend and rely on them and I know they'll always be there for me. I have a few close friends that you can usually find me with. As for romantic relationships, those are few and far between. It takes a lot for me to open up to someone emotionally, and girls apparently don't like when that takes a long time."

"Yes, I've lived here all my life, and I quite like it. It's not as fruity as outsiders might think, what with sprites running around. No, I've always loved it here. It's homey, y'know? Everyone feels nestled in here, it's nice."

"I'm a pretty typical resident of Cherry Tree Lane, so there's not too much history that's unique to me. I grew up here, had a couple siblings, went to school in town, and now I manage a nice seafood place. It's located on one of the Lanes, you see, couple blocks south of the Teary Cafe."

CHARLOTTE SAT DOWN AT HER USUAL TABLE,
the booth in the front corner of the restaurant. It was made of a good, solid wood and was right next to a window. She loved being able to watch everyone walk by as they went about their day, their scarves blowing in the wind.
THE WAITRESS CAME OVER, BRINGING A GLASS OF WATER, WONDERING IF
anyone else would be joining Miss Charlotte today.
I love that they know me by name here, thought Charlotte. She told the waitress that she didn't think anyone else would be joining her today, but she'd be keeping her fingers crossed! Charlotte wrapped her shawl closer to her, having felt a chill of winter air when the door opened for another customer. She loved this time of year, but it wasn't always pleasant being out in the cold.
SHE SMILED AS THE WARMTH FROM THE FIREPLACE
greeted her like an old friend. She could hear laughing coming from a nearby table, a group of friends sharing dessert together. On the other side of the restaurant, an elderly couple was celebrating, she assumed, a wedding anniversary. Sometimes, she thought, maybe the world isn’t quite as cold as the snow.
